AMAZON TRIP REPORT

We felt the trip to Royal Amazon was two days too long…how many fish does one need to catch??  We will go back!

The lodge was great, the no-see-ums tough, and the arawana fish fun to search for and try to catch…I missed a lot but never got one…the others did.  Caught 200++ peacocks and a large number of double digit sized fish. The youngest person with us had never fly fished before…got good by the end of the week and also caught at least 200 fish.

Over all, the facilities were great and the fishing fantastic…the only thing they need is better flight service to Manaus.  I broke two cheap 8 wt rods and found the more expensive Winston, Sage and Loomis rods held up well.  We used sinking line most of the time….caught a few on poppers and found out the Peacocks fed on any color and anything that moved well.  BIG deceivers with big heads and eyes worked great…the guides all differed on how to catch the arawana …one did jump into a guys boat after a popper…how about catching one without a hook ????
